JK: Banging, Haute Mélange of Dopeness.

BLISS LAU_ THE LEADER OF THE PACK WHO IS OFTEN IMITATED BUT NEVER DUPLICATED_MINI PROFILE...

hello darlings welcome back from where ever you were since we last communicated... today I'm profiling a dear friend Bliss Lau... who some of you fashionistas may be familiar with and others need a refresher course on what's or who is hot... this is the very Bliss who captured WIIN(Y)'s first ever blog post... click here to see where we have been... and read below to see where we are today... and I thank you Bliss for taking the time out of your increasingly busy schedule to finally get me the info... and a special thanks to photog Cameron Krone and stylist Christian Stroble... the pics are marvelous...

all pics below are courtesy of bliss lau
WIIN: What is your full name and where are you from?
BL: Bliss Lau and I am from NY!!! I was however raised in Honolulu, HI

WIIN: How long have you had your own collection and how did it begin for you?
BL: My collection began a week before I graduated from Parsons... I sold my senior thesis handbag collection to a store in SOHO… six years ago!!! I have since then transitioned from handbags to belts and now to body jewelry always using leather as a common thread... I think that each category gave birth to the next and I have found the jewelry collection to be the most ‘me.’

WIIN: How old were you when you figured out you wanted to be a designer?
BL: I think that to be a designer you have to like solving problems. I am not sure if I ever had an epiphany but I have always had a clear vision of what types of clothes or accessories I wanted that didn't exist yet...

WII: What are your other interests?
BL: Good food is one of my favorite things... I spend a tremendous amount of time in bookstores and at the library and I love to research old crafts and read craft books... Lately I have been visiting museums and art galleries I think that the world is going through a creative explosion and NY is catching the first wind of it...

WIIN: In 5 words or less please describe you personal style?
BL: Draped, dark, soft, negative space

WIIN: What is your favorite piece of clothing at the moment?
BL: I wear these half black half sheer tights that I've cut the foot out and made into a wrap-like-tie around the calf and this is my favorite garment of the moment... however my alternative answer of my favorite new fashion accessory is toenails, painting the nail half silver and half nude on each toe.

WIIN: Who is your favorite designer today and why?
BL:I have two, Bijules a local NYC designer because she is willing to jump off the train for the betterment of her work... I have an earring that is two feet of faux black hair from her collection that is so creepy but cool... I love a designer who takes risk... My other favorite is 80%20 shoes because she makes the best walkable NY- girl shoe with a rubber sole and it’s always hard to find shoes you can walk-in in this city!

WIIN: So your collection of body jewelry is hot right now and can be seen in Italian Vogue, Rolling Stone etc… Where do you go from here? What is the next step?
BL:Onward to fine jewelry... stones and more hardcore leather pieces... I’m thinking about a men’s collection as well... we shall see!!!

WIIN: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
BL: I have lot’s of goals and hopes but no definite plan... I think that right now it is important to take it one season at a time, and just be as creative as possible...
