MINI-PROFILE... PRODUCER & DJ DOM DE FELIPPO

paano ay ka aking lovelies? (filipino in honor of our profile subject)
today I'm really excited that we are profiling a phenomenal dj & producer... all around scenester DJ dominique... Dom (as his friends call him) always has something going on and I wanted to thank him for taking the time out from his full schedule to answer a few questions for WIIN... Enjoy

1)WIIN: What is your full name? DJD:Dominick Leon De Felippo

2)WIIN: What it is that you do and how long have you done it? DJD:I've been Djing and producing for about 15 years… But I like to do everything… I can't just do one thing…

3)WIIN: Where are you from and how long have you lived in NY? DJD: I'm an Air Force Brat but I was born and raised in the Philippines … I’ve also lived In Okinawa, Japan for about 4 years before moving to Biloxi, Mississippi when I was 14... So I'm from the dirty south... It's what I claim anyway because I lived there or kept moving back there thru my early 20's… Then I moved to NYC in 97’ and I've been living here ever since…

4) WIIN: What projects are you currently working on? DJD: I'm building a recording studio @ 169 Bowery called Collective Hardware... I’m starting a record label and a production company called Heart & Dagger that will also be located at the Collective Hardware space… I'm also spinning in a novelty duo called “Faux Mex” with Jonny Santos... We will be wearing Lucha Libre Masks and Norman Reedus will do the visuals as we spin... I'm also working on my solo music project called "Doomed from the Start"…

5) WIIN: As a child what did you want to do when you grew up? DJD: A football player… I played sports the whole time I grew up and Football was my thing… My coaches all thought I would go pro...

6) WIIN: What or who has influenced your career choice the most? DJD: I'm very organic and get influenced by life and the process of it... I'm always being inspired and affected through life and the trends that always come and go... But some of the things that have stuck with me are “Technology” (obviously a big thing for me) and “Be Here Now” a book written by Dr. Richard Alpert… Also New Orleans, New York, Rocky, Misfits, Metallica, Marilyn Monroe, Black Sabbath, Brian Eno, Alice Coltrane, Basquiat, Iggy Pop, Hip Hop, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus andChristian Hosoi... It's ever growing and I never stop getting influenced by something….

7) WIIN: In 5 words are less please describe you personal style? DJD: Classic, Diverse, Original.

8) WIIN: What is your favorite instrument? DJD: Fender Rhodes

9) WIIN: What is your favorite song of all time? (only 1 please)
DJD: Damn hard one to answer! Maybe “All we ever wanted” - Bauhause

10) Please share with our WIIN readers an anecdote of your choosing? DJD:”The first time I traveled 1st class” When I was with the band Rockets & Cars we were on tour in Europe. We were going to be touring in the UK for 3 weeks so me and TJ the singer decided to stay a week in Paris before hand. We subleased a place in Gambetta over looking most of the city. Was great!!! Anyway, time to go to London and we were running late… so when we got to the station they were like run, run!!! So we start running to catch our train and they were actually holding it just for us… We're running our asses off to catch the train it's moving now and not slow at all... We we're supposed to be up front and we said screw that so we just jumped on where we were… We got in and settled in our seats, just then a waitress comes over and asked us what we would be having for dinner and if we would like a beverage?
Then I notice the seats and they are like lazy boy recliners and i'm like ohhhhhhh.... While sitting I'm playing it cool like we belong, but just waiting for them to go tickets? Then our number would be up, but I keep waiting and nothing... So I'm like whew, yeah boy! Then TJ is behind me with headphones on and he finally gets it and blurts out yo! I think we're in 1st class!!!!???? Everyone else in the car looks over at him and me and I look at TJ with the look of death… thinking dude shut the “F” UP!!!! Luckily, none of the staff was around and the trip from Paris to London was nice and comfy....
